Central Coast, California | I didn't watch the preview or sale but there can be multiple reasons.
1. Just because the dog scored the best in the trial doesn't mean it's the most desirable. A good trial dog is great in the show but how well will it work outside when **** is going down and your not able to give it commands every 30 seconds. Also a big strong dog can be good but a reckless dog can be prone to getting hurt. Also age and breeding potential are factors that aren't necessarily scored in.
2. This sale can be a little political. Can't they all.
3. Could be a straw sale to build reputation. This sale does not allow consignors to set a reserve so most of them will prearrange a minimum price with a friend who will bid it up. Sometimes people decide to make a splash arrange a very high price and then kickback a big chunk of money.
