Eighty Four, PA | We store ours in a concrete block springhouse that Dad had built in the 60s; water runs year round. Better than half of the floor is an open-top reservoir that Dad used to pump water to the barn for the cows. Built a platform over the reservoir with C-channel & deck boards.
My consultant from potato country in Maine said it is ideal: dark, the temperature is low (potatoes sprout at 55 F), the humidity is high, and the running water keeps the room from freezing. We have inner & outer entry doors, which face west, to deflect the wind.
Bought 1 bu. apple boxes for ease of handling & storage. Use colored tape on each box to identify the four varieties.
Purchased seed from Agway this year, Canadian source. Next year will be ordering from a grower in Maine potato country. | |
