CENTRAL ILLINIOS | Fires were somewhat common when those tractors were new and got ran hard on the disk chisel in dry fluffy corn stalks. We bought a used one that had a small fire when the first owner had it. They got it put out with only some wiring harness and paint damage. Everyone started carrying a fire extinguisher and ours still has one under the seat that was there when we bought it.
Edit - I assumed you are talking about a JD 8970 four wheel drive tractor.
