Subject: Feed Value of Corn Left in Field

Central Iowa
I have the chance to farm 53 acres of DNR owned ground. Lease says you need to leave 10% of crop acres and cannot touch that 10% until March. I have a small cow calf herd that gets hay and some grain during colder months. Anyways- anybody had any experience turning mature corn into something edible for cows? I don't know how much deer and other critters will destroy it. I might get to March and just decide to till it under if there's nothing left. I know wind/snow can make a mess of it too. But if it is standing with some corn left, is there a way I could use it for the cows? Thanks
