Fly by wire means that the tractor steering wheel is connected to the hyd steering system electronically. There is no hand pump, but rather a steering wheel decoder as it is called, which takes steering wheel movement and translates it to a valve which operates the steering motors(very simplified explanation). This allows the atuopilot system to just plug a jumper in to your tractors wire harness and steer your tractor. If it is not ISO or Can equipped the autopilot system is still plugged into the tractor electrically, but requires the use of an interface box. The only way that I know how to tell if the Cat is ISO equipped is to look on your MDIS display and verify that it has a Can Translater installed on it. To do this turn the upper knob to the 1oclock position, then press the enter key and the right arrow key at the same time, this will take you to a page that lists all of the controllers present on the system. See if there is a Translator Controller present-should be a hardware and a software part number on the page. If there is, then the tractor will take the ISO platform kit. Look and see what you have and if your not sure about it talk to your Cat dealer and see what they say. As far as I know, you should be able to use the ISO platform for your tractor. This just involves a harness instead of all the hyd components of a normal platform kit. Not sure of total cost for a complete Trimble Autopilot, but am sure that the Cat install is a little cheaper than others. Good luck!!
