NW Washington | I remember my aunt having a Maytag wringer washing machine that was powered by a nasty smoky noisy two-cycle engine with Kickstarter. She washed on the back porch and the engine had a long flexible exhaust pipe that went out through the door. My mother also had a Maytag wringer washing machine, but it had an electric motor.
They also had a real "ice box" that needed blocks of ice to keep things cool. They lived near a town and but had no electricity, which was about 1950. | |
