RR Valley, ND; MN native | I grew up on a traditional mixed farm with crops/dairy/cattle/hogs. We never took a "vacation" and never left the farm for more than a few hours for any family holiday gatherings when I was in school due to needing to be home for chores. Dad did not miss milking 2x a day even once for the entire time from when I was in kindergarten until nearly graduated HS. Missed out on a lot of typical family things only heard about or seen on TV.
So, my folks only vacation time was typically a few hours nap in the recliner chairs on a Sunday afternoon after a hearty noon dinner after church before it was time for evening chores in the barns.
Not sure this was a good example for me as even 40 yrs later with a office type job I feel like taking a day off is wrong somehow. | |
