My wife loves the western michigan lake towns. Saugatuck, New Buffalo, Holland. All fairly close to South bend.
I’ll add to that list South Haven. It has a very nice State park on Lake Michigan if you like a nice sandy beach. Sherman’s ice cream in South Haven is very good.
