Subject: Drought tolerant lawn

West-Central Missouri
This is a spot in front of my house. In dry conditions in the middle of summer everything will die. Then just weeds grow back. I dug down and found a gravel driveway about 6” down with good topsoil on top. Previously, i think this lot had propane storage tanks, so I assume that was the driveway.
I really do not want to dig up the driveway. And i really want grass lawn there. Is there a good dry weather grass that will not die in the heat of summer, even though it may turn brown? Or is there something else wrong. Does lawn grass root down below 6”?
