I had something similar happen with a cereal rye cover crop once. I was already planning to post with a sort of home-brewed Halex, so I waited for a nice sunny day and sprayed the planned post. As I recall, I used 3/4 lb atrazine, 4 oz Calisto, and a pint of generic Dual. I don't recall if I added more MSO or just counted on the oil in the generic Dual to heat it up enough.

What little rye didn't die completely just sat there for a long time, until the corn completely shaded it out. It certainly wasn't competing with the corn after that.
