Western-Central Lower Michigan | Components could fail anytime, new or older. But odds of failing go up with older going sooner.
Some DDR3 Motherboards got some miles left, but DDR4 is here. I dont feel there is any issue with buying used off ebay. IT vendor, gets a contract to replace computers at "BIG BANK" and branches every few years. IT gets to dispose of the used computers. Sells on Ebay.
But getting a SSD (solid state hard Drive) is the best boost for the buck.
I just bought a 128 gig SSD for less than $15 on Newegg, Im sure its cheap because smaller drives arent popular.
Remember, no computer or hard drive is going to last forever. The life of these are about 10 yrs, IMHO..
EDIT, with Windows 10 becoming unsupported in a couple years, you may want to find a computer that is Windows 11 ready.
The good thing about Windows 10 was it would run on about any computer. Microsoft must have got into cahoots with DELL, HP, and others so everyone is going to need a "new computer" to run Windows 11.
