Kingston,Mi | Just opened a letter from a real estate speculator offering to buy a "vacant" parcel of mine. I bought this piece at a state tax sale to prevent undesirable neighbors and outbid speculators with the outrageous winning bid of $600 for 1.7 acres of prime (if you are a muskrat or Canada goose) flooded ground. Dad sold this parcel about 1958 to a neighbor who planned to build a gas station and auto repair business once the state highway was rebuilt in the early 1960's. When the highway was completed, it was 8 to 10 feet above the lot and he lost interest in the gas station dream.
Obvious that none of these real estate geniuses ever looked at the parcel in question as it has been flooded with an average of 2 feet of water since the mid 1980's. Water is trapped on it and leaves only thru evaporation.
Many reasons to reject the offer of $8499.96 but I am offended by stiffing me 4 cents.
At least I now can join the club of amused landowners who received low ball offers. by unsolicited mail.
