| You can also use Word/Excel for free with your Microsoft account (It's free too). There is less functionality than the desktop application, but I haven't found anything I needed to do that wasn't included. If you're doing something that involves macros or vba it won't work.
I've used LibreOffice and it's fine, but the differences from Office are enough to frustrate you when first learning the program. Google sheets is great if you aren't needing your files to be in Microsoft format.
I tend to use google for personal stuff that I won't need to share. I'll use Office online if I will need to share the files with an organization that uses Microsoft Office.
The great thing about online platforms is that you never have to worry about updates to the program and your files are backed up in the cloud and accessible from any device that has an internet connection. Desktop applications are better when you won't be connected to the internet.
