Speed sensor possibly.  Have you watched the pto speed reading when it gets to kicking off?  That time interval is close to what the time delay would be if the tractor saw a clutch slipping so low rpm/no rpm, pto automatically turns off to protect the clutch.  

Maybe the high speed of the mower, speed sensor reads enough that system functions normally and does not kick out.
