You are correct. The shaft that runs through the chopper drives the clean grain elevator on the other side. The infamous "shaft inside a shaft"


So it's not all welded together as one piece? What's supposed to keep the inner shaft from turning inside the chopper then?

Mine isn't actually broken, just the shaft is turning inside the chopper. I thought it was a welded assembly and the welds were broken. Is that not right?
