He doesn't sound like Knot head to work with. If you just took them back, he would say you injured one, if you waited him out he would say you abused them, if you fed and watered them he would just shrug, If you tried to cool one off he would say you had one die while penned up. I still would do the minimum care in a husbandry like manner. Good luck.
