I forgot to mention that my no-till beans are taller this year, otherwise it’s as you mention, the no-till beans are usually shorter initially.

I actually think it’s got something to do with the near constant almost hurricane force winds that we've been having.

 



Man it’s been like here as well, the winds have have been destroying all kinds of stuff.

I always figure no till beans enjoy the cooler ground temps maybe?

You will see a lot it in cotton.

Last years cotton stems are very visible, they get bush hogged and are usually 10 or so inches tall. Most guys plant cereal rye in the fall and it’s always greener and taller next to the old stalks.

 Chris, i think that might be part of it, i have heard the theory that the most microbial activity is near the old  crop rows thus giving the the new crop a jump start. I have been following the air and bare 4 inch deep soil temperatures from some Mesonet weather stations and the soil temperatures have running 6 - 9 degrees higher than the air temps.
