My dad had the exact same phone ( AT&T Cingular Flip IV model U102AA), that quit working 2 wks ago. ATT said it was towers not communicating with that phone was the problem. No known date of when it would be fixed/solved.
Switched him over to Verizon. Better plan, not much more cost. (He did go to a smartphone. )
