Sunnyside, WA | We owned a Kuhn MM700 merger with 4' extension for 3 years and covered over 10k acres with it. 4' extension is junk and really limits capacity. Keep cam bearings changed. Belts need to be tight. Bearings on inner belt roller fail and you can't see to know. We cut with a 16' Massey SP set at 14'6" and if you leave the windrow laid all the way wide then you better drive perfect with the merger. Very tight to pick it up.
Sold the Kuhn MM700 and bought a new H&S 6128 merger. The H&S is built much heavier than the Kuhn MM700, but the H&S snapped the hitch after 1700 acres. Now have an update kit, but still not impressed. Even though the H&S is 28' vs 24' on the Kuhn, the H&S doesn't have a wind guard and tends to roll the feed before it actually picks it up. I'm told to slow down, but we run 7-10 mph just to stay ahead of the chopper. Deeper belt, less plugging, more hydraulic power. Easier height adjustment. Probably an upgrade, but not a huge upgrade.
Also bought a used 2016 ROC RT1000 this spring. Has some acres on it, but it works. Lower profile pickup doesn't roll the crop. Seems to be a decent machine for what we paid, but only run it on about 800 acres so far.
Oxbo is probably the Cadillac, but I'm not spending that much for a new merger.
Kuhn MM700 made the nicest windrows followed by the H&S 6128. ROC windrows are pretty clumpy.
