Re-set your MacBook to factory specs, go on U-Tube and there they walk you through the procedure.
For your needs what you have will do quite well.
I just bought a MacBook Air M1, a refurbished one by/from APPLE, $200 below new, these refurbished units by Apple are like new and get the packaging, warranty of a new unit.
I've also had an apple-refurbished iPhone for a few yers, no problems.
