If treated correctly, the AC tranny is fine, but the tranny brake is the weak point. Guys just stomp the clutch to the floor, and it takes out the tranny brake, which is extremely costly to fix. The brake is inside at the very front end of the tranny casing, and to get the tranny out of the tractor, you can either pull the motor, lift off the cab, or dig a hole and drop it out the bottom into the hole and pull the tractor off it! Lots of labor hours!

They were the CR/KR 1225 and CR/KR 1280, which were only built in 1985, and the Cougar 1000, built in 1986. I'm not sure what the Bearcat 1000, which replaced the 1225, used. My brothers own a CR 1280, which currently has a little over 9000 hrs on it. We were able to adjust the external clutch linkage(not the clutch cable) to get the tranny brake working properly again.
