| We got a JD MX8 three- point model we pull with our '65 JD4020 and while it will cut big stuff like small trees, corn stalks, ragweeds, ect., but for cutting grass, it looks like someone wacked it with a baseball bat. Doesn't really cut it, even with sharpened blades (and yes, installed the right way, at the right rotation). A friend of ours has a 6' flail-type and like the job it does on grass much better. I'm not sure what brand it is. The only thing I'm leery about is the belt drive. The MX8 is all shaft drive with a slip clutch on the PTO. Never smoked the clutch, even in some tall, heavy stuff. The one we had before was a three blade belt drive and would smoke the belts any time you got in heavier stuff, but did a good job on medium grass. I would want it to be as wide as the 4020, preferrably a 8', with no offset.
I'm kind of suprised at the problems you have with your Bushhog. I always thought they had pretty good stuff? | |
