Rated load--normal loads you can carry--are 50% of tipping load on wheeled machines and 35% of tipping load with tracked machines . So a tracked machine can carry heavier loads than a similarly-rated wheeled machine. This is some sort of industry standard--why, who knows?? Makes it confusing.

The load rating is in close to the arms, so out on a set of pallet forks a machine will tip sooner than the tipping rating says it will.

My experience with tracked machines is that you usually run out of hydraulics before it will tip (for the most part-there are exceptions), and a wheeled machine will do a nosedive when overloaded.

If you want to lift , say, 2000 lbs 4'high when stopped on a smooth surface, a 16-1700# rated wheeled machine will do it, especially if counterweighted. If you want to lift the same 2000# up real high when moving, you better have a MINIMUM of a 2000# machine. I mean RATED capacity, not tipping capacity.
