HID conversion is very simple and only cost around $55 for a set of 2 bulbs and ballasts. Buy the right bulb replacement kit and the HID bulbs do go into the old light bulb socket. But its not just a bulb that you change, there is a ballast you put inline (and with some kits an igniter) for the bulb. For your flasher issue HID wont work and aren't made to turn on and off like that, if you want to upgrade you will probably have to go LED. For the old round 4" sealed beams on the older tractors, I haven't found a direct HID replacement for them, but the bulbs should be here today (at least thats what UPS says) for me to try an HID upgrade on the headlights my 4020. I found a 4" composite light (i think for motorcycles) that has an H3 bulb in it. Its not a flood pattern but more of a headlight beam so I'm replaceing the H3 with an H3 hid kit. Ill try to post some pics when its done.
