southern MN | Are you getting the hd channels from antenna or from cable or from an internet Hulu/ Roku deal?
Only the actual antenna pick up may be the true 1080 resolution.
Cable companies squeeze or compress video to allow more stations on the same cable, so their box will ‘unsqueeze’ the channels and tell you it is 1080, but it really isn’t.
Similar with the internet connections, some will change the resolution to match the internet connection speed. I have my Roku/ sling set to 720 just to allow room on the internet connection for other uses at the same time.
So, are you really getting 1080 to the back of the tv to start with?
Then, a screen smaller than 40 inches you really won’t notice much different people at all if you are sitting at ‘tv watching distance.’ You night notice it somewhat if you are at ‘computer monitor distance.’
Larger TVs the difference between 720 and 1040 is usually more noticeable.
Actually tv signal is getting squeezed, compressed, repacked, and bundled with other signals so much some of it is turning into stutter steps and very pixelated. Looks really bad. As so many different wired, wireless, processed, and exchanged signal processing is happening at 5 different points along the way before it gets to your TV set.
