We had a haybuster drill, sold it this year. The metering process is like others have said a joke of a metering process. It has holes across the bottom of the seed box, a slide with similar sized holes slides back and forth lining up with the box holes changing the effective size of the holes in the box. A rubber wheel with tractor tire type tread sits about .75 inch back from the hole inside the box and turns behind each hole thus spitting out the seed. Ours had agitators up through the box to keep bulky seed from bridging up. We used it to seed a lot of quail habitat and warm season grasses, the seeds were usually bearded (think dandelion seed) They didn't meter at all they would come out in blobs, it usually turned out alright but you didn't have much control over the amount that came out so we had to cover the ground several times to get the desired amount on the ground.

The small seeds box on the front is a miniature version of a JD 750 drill almost an exact copy.
