We had the same problem this year. New boots and blades. We were in the middle notch and they were going way deep and and set one shallower, some in dry dirt. This is on our non modified drill. If we had SDX of Needham wheels on like we do on our other, the third notch would have been perfect.

Here is a thought, what if a person took an oversized drill bit to notch that is a fuzz shallow. That would make a little extra room for the pin and gauge wheel to ride up. As long as you left enough metal to hold. Make sense?
