Subject: RE: NH Knotter Question

Kittitas Co. Wa. State

No, not really.. replacing hay dogs is a challenge, not so much the dogs, but the hold down springs are a trick. Get a screw driver to wedge and position the springs, one side at a time. And, have a spare screwdriver or small piece of metal to keep the 'loop' of the holdown spring from slipping over the edge of the hay dog. (position the spring is in when operating)

If you have hay in the chamber the only 'trick' I use is get a large but not long block of wood (6x6 or similiar, 12 inchs long should be plently long) and wedge between the hay and the plunger. Then either VERY VERY SLOWLY cycle the plunger or roll the plunger by hand so the plunger pushes the hay back away from the knotter area. Push the length meter down before pushing the hay back in the chamber so the knotters will NOT enguage while shoving the hay out of the way.

Fairly simple job,, just agravating....
