Subject: 1770 won't lift, update

North Central Indiana
Finally got the 1770 off the ground yesterday and worked like heck to get caught back up. Worked on it for a day with no luck and finally called JD to have tech come out and help. He did all the tests and determined that it was bypassing all the oil inside the valve body with no restriction what so ever (big hole some where) My planter was one of the early models and had no electrical solenoids, just a Danfoss manual valve the did the functions of configuring the planter from plant to transport and back. Anyway, to make a long story short, the port for pressure and return are bored horizontally into the block from the end, one directly above the other. About halfway back there is a plug on top of the valve body that covers a vertical port bored down through the 2 horiz pressure/return ports. In the vertical port there is a allen head plug threaded into the vertical port between the pressure and return passages. When we removed the top plug we found that the pipe plug had backed out of it's threads and allowed the hyd fluid to just circulate from pressure straight to return and resulting in NO LIFT!! Cost me about $400 to have the tech screw it back in. If any of you guys have one of these early 1770, tuck this little tidbit in the back of your mind somewhere and hopefully it will save you about a day of chasing your tail. Happy planting! TG
