Central Kansas | ........be sure and check the augur for birds nest! Went to planting beans yesterday and using a gravity box with hydraulic augur to fill the hopper on my planter. Does sits outside all year so, ran the augur "dry" and got some birds nest out.......ok, ran some beans up the augur and let them dribble to the ground...a few more pieces of birds nest BUT then it ran clean...SO put the discharge spout over the hopper, watch it closely and put 17 units in. Planted 2 acres and moniter kicked on and said I was out of seed. Sure enough, the drum was EMPTY. Wouldn't flow at all out of the chute soooooo unloaded the hopper with a gallon can(1 1/2 hrs later) and in in the throat of the chute was the rest of the birds nest. My guess is with a brush auger, part of the nest stuck to it and when I put "full flow" to the augur, it kicked it out and in the blink of an eye, got covered up near the throat of the chute.
