Subject: RE: Rotary Hoe and Organic Corn

Central Iowa
We grow organic corn. And a hoe is your best friend for weed control early on. We usually plant then five days later hoe once then hopefully five days after that the corn is showing and we hoe it again. Generally if any weeds have sprouted its to late for the hoe and you need to live with them until row cultivating starts. When everything works right we cultivate twice, the first time is very slow ~2 mph when the corn is very small, this requires rolling shields and then a few weeks later when the corn is almost knee high.

When growing organic corn you never beat the weeds, you win by just staying ahead in the race.
