I agree, short line companies often have no clue about standard dimensions. Cat 3 lift arms are 1-7/16, center link is 1-1/4". It's hard to drill a 1-7/16 hole with the average farm drill press, unless you have a fancy one that will go real slow. We usually drill it in stages like you said. In the interest of saving time, we've gotten to where we're satisfied with a hole cut by the plasma cutter. We have a machine shop close by. Sometimes I cut the plates, get them bored, then weld them on.
