must just be you,  when we were changing the shaft on a very regular basis, the pto dry socket was much less painful than the other kind you're referring to.

...and much cleaner in changing than the 'wet' style.

Actually, once I clued in on how to do it quick and easy, it really isn't painful at all, unless the shaft is extremely hot from heavy use while you're trying to change it, then gloves or a heavy rag are a must.
