I certainly do not see tires outlasting tracks, nor do I see them riding better anywhere except on the road.

I bet replacement cost is not much difference between combinations which put down similar contact patch.  BIG tires are not cheap, either, and it takes a lot of them to go all the way around a big tractor! Only takes two belts :)
