Sounds like it is not getting enough air to burn the fuel. You're filter is probably clogged with soot. You should also check your intake hose and make sure the exhaust hasn't burned a hole in it. Te exhaust blowing on the air intake is probably running up your intake air temps too, which can rob power and damage your turbo. And yes, thick smoke and low power could mean your turbo is shot.

I'd get that exhaust fixed then see how it runs.
