| Mine usually fail because the photocell window is frosted. Dusting won't help then however with dusty (graphite and innoculant) seed, brushing can be needed a couple times a day. I picked up a sensor brush for my old Cyclo 400 but I never made its monitor work. A long soft bottle brush is about right, I'm fairly sure its available lots of places as a seed sensor cleaning brush.
Sloan Express has a better price than Shoup.
The way they work is there are couple red light emitting diodes on one side of the seed tube. There is a photo resistor on the other side. With a clear lens and no dust the light from the LEDs makes it conductive. When a seed falls by that conductivity changes while the seed reduces the light on the photo cell. That's what the monitor senses.

The three little connectors are another source of problems. I like to use DeoxIT from CAIG labs, but tv tuner cleaner works there too to clean those connections. There are many contact cleaning concoctions, DeoxIT is the best. Look for it at Antique Electronic Supply.
