Wisconsin | In the old days, we'd hook up a welder to both ends of a galvanized underground pipe to thaw it. Can't do that with plastic, so run a SS wire along it, SS has twice the electrical resistance of steel, which is twice AL, which is twice copper, roughly speaking. Also, SS hopefully won't corrode underground. So once it freezes up, you figure out the resistance and what voltage you need to have a suitable wattage, or hook up an inverter welder and set it to 10-20 amps and wait till the water runs. | |
