A 5240 or 5250 is a good tractor, but not as heavy as the 7xxx series deere's. They also aren't physically as large, if that matters. I kind of think they are in between the 6xxx and 7xxx series. 5xxx Maxxum will be a nice upgrade over a 6xxx deere, but may not really compete with the 7xxx on heavy work. I've not had too much go wrong with the maxxum's yet that you wouldn't expect. I've got a 9000 hr 5140 that had a synchronizer go out of the trans, and we just put a hydraulic pump on it. I'm not too shocked a that for the hours. The clutch discs in the tranny were still within new specs, and all the bearings were good, so we pretty much replaced the synchronizer and put it back together. As far as resale, both my Maxxums are worth at least what I gave for them, probably more. I really don't think resale is an issue here, you're just spending more up front.
