Perfect job for the CAT MT755B. 25" belts would be my choice also - especially for fall tillage. Planting in the track is usually not an issue. It is almost not fair to compare the two tractors because the MT is ahead of the Deere by, pardon the pun, leaps and bounds. Yes, JD is releasing a "new" series soon, but it is believed to be a miniaturized version of the 9030T undercarriage, which still isn't what the Cat undercarriage is. This new undercarriage from JD is built by Camoplast for them and doesn't have pivoting midwheels like the Cat, and pivoting midwheels are a major factor in ride quality and traction. But they did add an airbag on the hardbar, so it is an improvement over what they have currently to be sure. Right now, there is a huge difference in ride quality in favor of the MT, and even after the new undercarriage from JD is available, I'll wager that it still won't be as smooth as the MT. The MT has faster road speed (25 mph). The MT has much better torque from C9 engine and better fuel economy. The track footprint is longer (base tractor is heavier so this gives you more traction as well as keeping lbs/sq in compaction in line with JD's smaller footprint and lighter tractor. The Cat has notably higher belt tension that is not maintained by the axle housings. With the JD you have to use this "spanner bar" between the hardbar (which is welded to the frame by the way, not oscillating like the MT) and rear axle housing. The MT belt tension is bourne by the in-line reaction arm (a much better design from an engineering perspective vs. putting an axle under compound bending loads). The MT has heavier 3 point hitch capacity as well as weight capacity for the undercarriage also (important when adding mounted implements or liquid tanks, etc. to tractor). MT has better resale and will really be better once JD introduces their "improved" and, no doubt to them, "revolutionary" undercarriage that will devalue the older style even more. It is difficult to foresee how the MT undercarriage can be significantly improved - it is a very sound design. MT cab visibility is better too. Better stop here, but I think you get the idea. For everything a track tractor does, the CAT simply does it better.
