I have never pulled a V-blade like you refer, I have used the 26" sweeps for many years in the past. There is little that gets past them when using in the summer heat and root kill is almost instantaneous. Luck at knocking out even volunteer wheat or any grass for that matter was less than stellar in the cool spring, unless you had an extended dry period and soil broke up very well. It just seemed the cool weather with the dampish soils would not let the root mass dry. I have much better luck with as little as a pint of generic RU on rye/wheat. Usually pretty easy to kill that way.
