Jon Hagen and his brother Don have put together a drive setup that may interest you. They use a pair of combine finals and chained them to an automotive axle to gain a lot of clearence. This is easily done on the non-steer axle, so maybe Jon will stop by and show a few pics.
Perhaps you can strip the entire combine down to it bare and basic frame and axles, then set your pickup sprayer on top and cradle it to drive the combine drives. ?? I dont know how much time you have.

Personally I like mechanical drive. Its cheap, easy to fix and build, and it is the most power efficient. Your pickup is allready setup that way and the combine final ratio reduction will go a long ways toward gearing for as tall a tire as you want to go. I think lot of combine finals average about 6:1 reduction or so. ?

Just remember, that now that you have asked the question here about this project, you have committed to taking pictures and posting updates as the project progresses........d:-)
