Aberdeen MS | First stage of results are in for my comparison of the 2 practices.
One variety was a P "Y" bean. A .695 bu/ac advantage to strip till. The second variety a P "M" bean .1 earlier maturity there was a 1.54 bu/ac advantage to strip tilliing.
4.5 acres of each were taken out across an 80. The entire field was stripped alternating 8 rows, ie 8 notill, 8 strip, 8 notill, 8 strip..etc. 4 full length passes were used for total bushels.
Both varieties and both methods had everything exactly identical throughout the entire year... planting, spraying, and harvesting.
Below is a picture from July 5 that shows the growth and root development difference. Strip till had the "healthier" appearing plants. The difference was still noticeable yesterday in harvesting .... just a bit more subtle.
I'll leave it others if the time and extra yield warrants one practice the other.
