Subject: Pumpkin Harvest

SE KS
First year growing pumpkins, 4 1/2 acres. They were pretty well mature 9/5. But we have had 10" or more of rain from 8/25 to 9/15. During that time I had lost quite a few vines. I notice some places the stems have completely died on the pumpkin and are wanting to break off. Most are ok with nice green, large stems, but some of the ones with smaller stems breaking off are starting to get soft. I cut them open and there is no sign of decay at all, but the flesh is getting soft. What caused this? Will it continue to worsen and should I steer people away from the softer ones? It's a pick your own patch. Dependable is the variety. Thanks.
