Alton, Ia | I'm assuming you are talking putting P & K down on bean stubble, prior to a corn crop, with enough to carry over into beans the following year. That's SOP around here anyway. My question to you is what did you do the first year? Did you fertilize the cornstalks going into beans? Are you taking into account whatever fertility was "given" to you by the prior farmer that year? If you don't, I would tread lightly on demanding what you are leaving behind.
If you want to rent from anyone else he associates with, I would try to negotiate as fairly as possible and keep it out of any lawyers or judges hands. You may win the battle and lose the war.
EDIT: Can you please explain your situation more? The way I read it is you are talking nutrients applied previously carrying over to next years crop. Other posters are reading it as applying this year's (ie 09 crop year) batch of fertilizer already. Which is it?
