If you did not have a lease in place for the 09 crop, then you applied the fertilizer at your own peril and the landlord owes you nothing. Unless, of course, your lease stated otherwise.
If the landlord filed a proper lien, then he can demand payment of the rent before you sell your crop. He could call the elevators and demand that checks be made co-payable to him.
