nw pa | I agree that in corn country or somewhere that the ground is uniform. Whole field average is a good idea and of course only the whole field will pay the bills. Problem we run into doing that is small fields, irregular fields, animal damage etc. Without a test plot that is somewhat controlled it would be almost impossible to compare varieties. We try to put the plots in a section where all have equal chance to grow. Fertilizer guy who weighs the plot is not given any numbers till the plot is done . He only has a, b, c etc. till he gets the numbers. All treatments are done across the rows where possible. Personally I think it does better than the side by side comparisons where somebody topdressed the wrong two rows or didn't count right. Sprayer damage, all the things that can happen. | |
