Thank You, Don. That is an excellent explanation of what is going on with Foliar feeding of many nutrients. Many people take the attitude that "that little amount can't do that". Therefore it gets branded as snake oil. I have always taken the attitude that you are trying, in some cases to wake the plant up and stimulate it to do more.

As to the longevity of an application: I used to have a product 8-0-0-9 (calcium nitrate) that we would spray onto Alfalfa after it had been cut and had started to regrow. If I was to do that in the spring of this year, I might not see the results visually, although we could see it in the feed analysis. However, next spring, and throughout the growing season you could usually pick the difference out to the cutoff line. Applied vs not applied. Standability, fineness of the stem and leaf would be different, as well as the feed value. So even though we like to think of it as only going into the leaf, there are other things happening as well.
