Ed, I was taught at an early age that the two things you didn't scimp on was tile & lime. I started farming in 1971 & can't remember a year that I haven't put down at least some lime. This year we have about 1,200 tons to go on if we can get it. Still probably have close to 250 ton to bring in.

One thing that I have noticed over the years is that some fields will take 2-3 tons / ac every 4 years while others will go many years without needing lime. I have one 50 acres field that other than a couple spots hasn't had lime put down since the late 1940s & the PH is still in the upper 6s. to low 7s At one point the ph was over 8
