I am going to guess it had a Holly with a manuel choke on it origionaly. Not sure what is wrong why you need a new one, but I would stay with the manuel choke.
As far as brand I think there are better carbs than Holly out there, But that is only becuse I had three trucks with Holly carbs on them and they always seemed to be troublesome if they sat for a few months.
