Different equipment to harvest and store. Some have one and not the other.

Handling earlage compared to corn silage is way faster, but probably lots slower than combining and hauling HM corn. I can't comment on the grinding aspect of the HM corn process, that could be slow enough that the earlage winds up being just as fast.

Earlage is good feed. I would not say the cob, shuck and stalk you get in it is worthless as far as nutrients since you have to have that fiber in any ruminant diet. You can get it from some other source, but none are going to be as cheap as what comes from the earlage.
